Week 7 - Storyline!! (5/14)

Hi there!! For my last animation, I have built on what I researched last week. My idea was to combine reality and animation - like the videos I made earlier - but add a storyline. Basically, I will be a character in the video alongside the animations, and interact with them. I started with a general idea to build around: adolescence, the process of growing up, etc. my main character will be a blob. Why? Well, they are easy to draw, they can be cute, and they have no real shape :) I have limited time left for this project, so the simpler the animations are, the easier it will be for me to complete the entire video.

Here is my basic outline. It is very simple, but there is really no solution to this, as I don't have weeks and weeks to work on it.

Part 1:

1) holding egg

2) put egg on ground

3) blog hatches out of egg

4) shake baby blobs hand

Part 2:

-switches between different adolescence scenes, very short, blob is growing up

-blob gets slightly bigger each time

       - sitting/standing on different parts of the background

       - make first few longer and slowly shorten

1) holding blob in arms, rocking blob

2) reading picture book to blob

3) looking at blob as blob goes to elementary school

4) blob sitting at table, doing homework

5) sad music, blob all grown up, says bye, leaves screen

6) ticking clock sound, clock hand moves in circles on screen, blob isn't coming back

Part 3:

         1) walking across different backgrounds (to show the lengths traveled)

2) finally enter the room we started it

3) see blob and its children

4) realize blob has grown up and it is no longer a child anymore

The end 🤗

An overview in case you didn't read the entire thing: A baby blog hatches from an egg. I bond with this blob, care for it, and nurture it as it grows. One day the blob grows older, goes away, and doesn't return (OH NO). I search for it everywhere and finally find it where we started with it's children. The end is bittersweet as I realize the blob is not a baby anymore.

So after figuring all this out, I went ahead and filmed all the necessary videos. As you can see, my camera roll is stuffed:

Since this is all finished, next week I will start animating on top of the videos I took and hopefully finish a large amount.

BUT WAIT!!!! DON'T GO! Last week, Madame Hailey Alt made an interesting comment on my post. She wrote:

Harold and Hailey are amazing and awesome names. Still, I feel it is unfair for only Hailey to be able to give suggestions. So I made a Google Forms where everyone can input their ideas!!!! Please do this! Even if the only name you can think of sounds boring, I'd love to hear it. Mr. Perlman and Mr. McDaniels are invited as well (did you really think I forgot?).

That's it! Bye!

  1. Important question: Can I be the blob's great aunt twice removed? Also, I love the story. I think Perlman will be very proud of this pyramid story structure. I can't wait to see the blobby!

  2. I'm excited to see your blob story!! A storyline is a great idea. I remember making a storyboard for my awful computer fair projects in gifted tech in middle school, so maybe you'd like to try that. Good luck!
