Reflection - Last Week :( - 6/2

Hi everyone! Or should I say goodbye… maybe I’ll say goodbye at the end.

Anyways, on to some *Ted Talk reflecting*.

There were things I liked about my Ted Talk. There were also things I didn’t like about it. (You know?? Maybe I’ll write like this in my next compare and contrast essay. I’m sure Mr. Perlman will love it.) I write in lists all the time. They are great! No complicated transition words, no introductions or conclusions. So, since this blog has no real format, I will write it as a list.

Pelin's thoughts on her Ted Talk

1) First of all, WHY CAN’T I TALK ON CAMERA?!?! If I were in person, I think it would go more smoothly, but somehow, I managed to misread and falter on words when recording. It wasn’t a problem with the notecards—no. I am guessing it was the overwhelming amount of spit in my mouth, sweating (the AC is broken ) and the solitude of being alone in a room.

2) During the short course of writing a Ted Talk, I really got in the ‘gist’ of it. I did not realize that I was able to write a speech that… quickly. I am happy that I put a spin on my project that conveyed a message that was applicable to everyone! Ted Talks I have watched in the past have commonly been psychology-based, and since everyone has a brain, it is easy to be inspiring this way. I pulled from the idea of forging your own path and not being stuck on the past, and was able to create an actual story from these weeks, which was shocking. Kudos to me, I guess!

3) My visuals were 'meh'. I was pretty unsure of what to use and I don’t think they added very much to my presentation. Some did—like the videos of animations, but the question marks and exclamation points were pretty unnecessary. Also—I had a lot of trouble with editing (how do you make a video look good?!), so there was a black screen that took place of the visuals at times, and the pictures were too small to see in the bottom corner.

4) I had a nice outfit on. It was stolen from my mom’s closet.

5) My family did not interrupt me while I filmed.

That’s all! This was definitely an interesting journey. Was it fun? Sure… maybe. It was definitely more engaging than any other project I’ve done this year. I learned a crazy amount. I know that I would never animate again if it weren't for this project I wrote. I actually learned HOW to write a blog, which was a plus. I did not learn any actual content though, so maybe I’ll take it up with the school board. Or… nahhh. Future gifted kids deserve to have a project that they can be invested in.

Goodbye!

  1. This project was lots of fun for me as well, and I think you made great progress in animation!
