Week 3 - "The Third Time's the Charm!" (4/16)

Over the past couple of weeks, I have been a burnt-out gifted kid, except only in the realm of animating. The goal of this week was to make animating a more creative and exciting process. I have been brainstorming over the past couple of days for what I can do as I am tired of drawing random objects 😊.

For a while now, I’ve been following the TikToker Maddi Winter. She makes videos like this, where she adds animations into her dancing:

                And this:

Aren’t her videos cool? Of course, she has 4 million followers and all of her videos get over a million views, but that is beside the point. I’ve always been extremely interested in her work and wondered exactly how she makes it. Thankfully. she recently posted a video explaining the process of her animations, and I thought it would be interesting to give it a try.

Her explanation video:

Surprise!!! She uses the same animation app as I do. I've always used FlipaClip, but I never knew that you could import videos like this. Maybe this will work out for me! My goal this week was to make a short TikTok video like she does and add fun effects to it as well. I filmed a video of me dancing, so I could have a base to add animations to:

Okay, so after this, I was all set to add the animations. This was a great experience: I felt I could be creative and add whatever I wanted. The easiest part by far was drawing effects that took up less space—like the rainbow, and the fireballs (although it still took up a fair amount of time). The tediousness came when I had to outline my entire body in white pen, and shade the background. I wish there was an easier way to do this, but it resulted in me drawing the same exact outline and background over and over again. There wasn’t a way for me to copy and paste it, since I was (obviously) moving between each frame and the outline wouldn’t fit. Another problem I had was the choppiness. I guess the app automatically divided up the frames, and my motions aren't fluid at all. Next time, I will make sure to make the frames shorter so it looks more realistic.

                Here is my final video:

So what do we think of the outcome of this week? I would say a success. I enjoyed this way of animating much more than that of the previous weeks', despite it taking the same amount of time. I am planning to continue this for a few more weeks since I'd much rather do something I love as opposed to something I dislike. Bye for now!!

Update: I commented on Anoosha S, Erin T, Matt W, and Alex F's posts.

  5. I see you Pelin!!! Nice moves!! I think of myself as a decent dancer but I can't with those moves. The speed at which you do them is absolutely insane, which is why I'm not a TikToker. It's so amazing that you're becoming so passionate about animating! Honestly, I could never, so claps to you!
